Getting the most from Amazon Prime Day? Get the most out of securing your packages.

RAPID CITY, SD – Prime Day is here and Amazon’s Prime offers on Monday and Tuesday will inevitably result in more packages in transit to homes across the country. When you place an order and look forward to that delivery day, here are some ways to protect your packages.

As people increasingly turn to online shopping during the pandemic, concerns about porch hackers remain.

Rapid City Police have a few tips to help you avoid becoming a victim. They say do your best to make sure the packages don’t stay on your doorstep for very long. Work with the shipping company to have the package shipped to the store for pickup or to your workplace.

If you’re close to your neighbors and know your package has been delivered, see if they can pick it up for you.

But if you have your package stolen, call the police. They say security camera video can be the most useful.

“We are starting to see doorbell cameras becoming an increasingly popular security feature in homes,” said RCPD public information officer Brendyn Medina. “They serve as a deterrent if a potential porch hacker sees a package on your porch they might want to take and they see you have that doorbell camera, they can think twice before taking that package.”

If you notice any suspicious behavior – like someone inspecting homes or taking packages from porches – call the police immediately.
