The new range of daily disposable silicone hydrogel contact lenses aim to provide a comfortable and hygienic handling experience.
Menicon has launched a daily disposable silicone hydrogel contact lens with its SmartTouch technology packaging.
The Miru 1day UpSide is the company’s first disposable silicone hydrogel daily lens using its Menisilk Air and NanoGloss Pro technologies.
These innovations help balance the material and surface properties, Menicon suggested, by combining a high oxygen content for health, an ultra-low modulus material for comfort, and a smooth surface for low friction.
The SmartTouch packaging also means that each lens is oriented the right way and can be removed and inserted without the patient touching the inner surface of the lens.
The Miru 1day UpSide lens is available in sphere and multifocal modes. A toric version will be introduced in due course.
The company explained that the world’s first patent on a silicone hydrogel contact lens material was granted to Menicon in 1979.
Kevin Mitchell, Managing Director of Menicon UK, explained that the lens is not handled by anyone from production until the wearer takes it out of the packaging.
He added, “The lens is effective in all key areas – health, vision, hygiene, comfort and convenience. ”
