North American Packaging Industry IT Hiring Activity Falls 1.4% in April 2022

North America saw a 1.4% decline in IT hiring activity in the packaging industry in April 2022 compared to the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

April 2022 saw a 0.32% increase in overall hiring activity compared to March 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 3.38% share of the industry’s total hiring activity in April 2022, registering a 0.09% increase from the average share for the past three months.

Software and Website Developers, Programmers and Testers Occupation Leaders by Classification in April 2022

Software and website developers, programmers and testers occupations emerged as the top IT occupation in North America with a 49.1% share in April 2022, down 24.16% from the month previous. Database and network administrators and architects came next, with a 15.86% share in April 2022, marking a 7.21% month-on-month decline. In third place were miscellaneous IT occupations with a share of 15.53% in April 2022, a drop of 17.31% from March 2022.

Computer and information analysts recorded a share of 11.32% in April 2022, down 11.79% from the previous month.

Top Five Packaging Companies in IT Recruitment Activity in North America in April 2022

The top five companies, by number of jobs tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 15.44% in overall packaging industry IT recruitment activity in North America in April 2022 compared to the previous month.

Nestlé posted 481 IT jobs in April 2022 and saw an increase of 34.73% from the previous month, followed by The JR Simplot with 113 jobs and a decline of 51.71%. Rich Products with 67 IT jobs and Carrier Global with 66 jobs, saw a 63.59% drop and a 34% drop, respectively, while PepsiCo saw a 9.8% increase with 56 job openings in April 2022.

Country Composition of IT Hiring in the North American Packaging Industry

The United States dominated the region’s packaging industry IT hiring activity with a share of 91.87% in April 2022, a decline of 19.3% from March 2022. Canada was next with a 4.26% share, up 43.4% from the previous month. Mexico recorded a share of 3.87%, a growth of 4.55% compared to March 2022.

Junior-level job openings dominate in April 2022

Junior-level jobs held a share of 61.27%, down 16.95% from March 2022. Mid-level positions, with a share of 21.3%, saw a decline of 23.08 % compared to the previous month.

In third place were entry-level vacancies with 16.31% market share, down 11.82% from March 2022, while senior vacancies accounted for 1.12%, registering a monthly growth of 100%.
